Pittsburgh summer break begins. Here's when students come back
Finch Walker- The 2026-2027 school year for Pittsburgh Public Schools begins on Aug. 24 for most students.
- Winter break is scheduled from Dec. 24 through Jan. 3, and spring break will run from March 22 through March 26.
Summer break kicks off on June 12 for students in Pittsburgh, with the gap between the end of this school year and the start of the next scheduled to span a little more than 10 weeks.
Kids will head back to school in August, with Pittsburgh Public Schools employees due back in the classroom ahead of time to prep for students' return.
These are the key dates on Pittsburgh Public Schools' calendar to keep in mind for the 2026-2027 school year, and when this year's graduates will collect their diplomas.

When does the 2026-2027 school year start for Pittsburgh Public Schools?
Kids in grades first through 12th will head back to school on Monday, Aug. 24, while kindergarteners will have their first day on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Before students come back to classes, teachers will return to work on Tuesday, Aug. 18, while paraprofessionals are due back on Friday, Aug. 21.

When are Pittsburgh students off for winter break?
Winter break is scheduled to last 11 days, beginning on Thursday, Dec. 24. Students will return to classes on Monday, Jan. 4.
When is spring break for Pittsburgh Public Schools?
Spring break 2027 is scheduled to run from Monday, March 22 through Friday, March 26, with students returning to class on Monday, March 29.
When are Pittsburgh Public Schools student holidays next school year?
Pittsburgh Public Schools students will have 12 days off in addition to spring and winter break during the 2026-2027 school year. These holidays include:
- Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 7
- Yom Kippur: Monday, Sept. 21
- Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 3
- Veterans Day: Wednesday, Nov. 11
- Thanksgiving: Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: Monday, Jan. 18
- Clerical and professional development days: Thursday, Jan. 21 and Friday, Jan. 22
- Eid al-Fitr: Wednesday, March 10
- Primary Election Day: Tuesday, May 18
- Memorial Day: Monday, May 31
Do Pittsburgh students get other time off?
Over the course of the year, students will get eight half days. These will take place on:

When are graduations at Pittsburgh Public Schools?
Graduation ceremonies were scheduled to run from Tuesday, June 2 through Friday, June 12. Most were set to take place at Petersen Events Center on Wednesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 11. Here's a look at when each school was scheduled to hold its commencement ceremony:
- Pittsburgh Milliones 6-12, University Preparatory School: Wednesday, June 10, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Petersen Events Center
- Carrick High School: Wednesday, June 10, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Petersen Events Center
- Westinghouse Academy 6-12: Wednesday, June 10, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Petersen Events Center
- The Barack Obama Academy of International Studies: Wednesday, June 10, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Petersen Events Center
- Allderdice High School: Wednesday, June 10, 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Petersen Events Center
- Perry High School: Thursday, June 11, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Petersen Events Center
- Science and Technology Academy: Thursday, June 11, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Petersen Events Center
- CAPA 6-12: Thursday, June 11, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Petersen Events Center
- Brashear High School: Thursday, June 11, 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Petersen Events Center
Additionally, Pittsburgh Online Academy's commencement ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 9 at Cupples Stadium, while Pittsburgh Pioneer Education Center, Pittsburgh Conroy Education Center and Bridges Academy were set to hold their ceremonies at their facilities from Tuesday, June 2 through Friday, June 12.
