Two weeks before the Oscars, "Sinners" put a scare into the hearts of other best picture contenders.

Ryan Coogler's genre-defying gangster vampire musical and period epic won best ensemble and best actor for star Michael B. Jordan at the Actor Awards – formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards – on Sunday, March 1. And it's a big deal for the film's fans who are following the road to the 98th Academy Awards on March 15: The Actor Awards are an important bellwether, since actors comprise the largest voting bloc in the Academy.

"Hamnet" star Jessie Buckley nabbed best actress, while film villains had a good night: Amy Madigan received best supporting actress for her witchy role in "Weapons," and Sean Penn got supporting actor for his antagonistic performance in "One Battle After Another."

In the TV categories, Catherine O'Hara won a posthumous Actor Award for her work on "The Studio," while her costar Seth Rogen won best actor and the show took home best comedy series. "The Pitt" snagged best drama ensemble and drama actor for Noah Wyle. And Owen Cooper, 16, made history by becoming the youngest individual winner in Actor Awards history, taking best actor in a limited series for "Adolescence." (He breaks a record held by Kate Winslet, who was 20 when she won best supporting actress for "Sense and Sensibility" in 1996.)
