Alphabet paid $380M in stock for Diane Greene start-up

SAN FRANCISCO — Alphabet paid $380 million to buy Bebop Technologies, the start-up founded by Alphabet director Diane Greene.

In a securities filing Monday, the Google parent company (GOOGL) said it offered $380 million of its shares on Dec. 17. Greene herself received Alphabet stock valued at $148 million and will donate the proceeds to charity, according to the filing.

Greene, the former VMware chief who has been a member of the Alphabet board since 2012, joined Google as part of the acquisition. She is a senior vice president overseeing Google's cloud computing business, which is taking on cloud leader Amazon. Google has consolidated its cloud businesses into a single group that Greene now leads.
