Google Fiber internet review 2025: Plans, prices and availability
Roxanne DownerYou may not have known that Google is also an internet service provider (ISP), but Google Fiber started in 2010 and has since expanded to 19 states. Google Fiber is a fiber-optic internet provider with some of the fastest speeds and competitive pricing. Fiber offers stable, reliable connections with symmetrical download and upload speeds, making it the best internet type for online gaming and streaming.
Google Fiber Internet offers:
- Multi-gig internet speeds
- Reliable fiber-optic service
- Free installation and equipment
- No-contract plans with unlimited data
Google Fiber has fast, symmetrical download and upload speeds on all plans. There are no equipment or installation fees, and all plans deliver unlimited data. The primary downsides, however, are its limited availability and slow expansion plans.

Google Fiber plans and pricing
Google Fiber sells four fiber internet plans, starting at $70 per month, with speeds ranging from 1 to 8 Gigabits (GB). Its most popular plans are the 1GB and 3GB, which are more than sufficient for average households. The 3GB plan delivers 3,000 megabits, the fastest plan most cable internet providers offer. However, ultra-connected households can also opt for an 8-Gig internet plan.
All plans include basic equipment free of charge, free professional installation, no contracts and unlimited data. The 1GB and 3GB plans are available anywhere Google Fiber operates, while the 8GB plan is available only in select cities.
When you buy the 3 Gig or 8 Gig plan, you'll get a Wi-Fi 6E router — estimated to be 50% faster than the previous Wi-Fi iteration (Wi-Fi 5) — and two extenders, which Google refers to as access points, to extend Wi-Fi range and coverage throughout your house. They should be enough to cover a 5,000-square-foot home fully. However, you can purchase additional access points for $50 to $150 each if you require more.
Google Fiber plan comparison
Google Fiber Core (1 Gig)
This fiber internet plan offers speeds of 1,000 Mbps for both upload and download and includes a Nest Wi-Fi Pro (a $199.99 value) that covers up to 2,200 square feet, as well as 1TB of cloud storage.
Google Fiber 1 Gig can support the average household's general online activities. You can connect multiple Wi-Fi devices simultaneously, including phones, tablets, gaming consoles, smart TVs and more. The symmetrical upload and download speeds are good for gaming, streaming, uploading files and downloading product updates.
- Starting price: $70 per month
- Download/upload speeds: 1,000 Mbps (symmetrical)
- Included equipment: Nest Wi-Fi Pro
- Contract: None
Google Fiber Home (3 Gig)
This internet plan is ideal for homes with larger square footage, as the coverage area extends up to 5,000 square feet, including the included Wi-Fi extender. Google Fiber's 3GB plan can handle competitive gameplay, live streaming, large file uploads and support for 20+ devices.

Google Fiber Edge (8 Gig)
Google Fiber's fastest internet option is its 8 GB plan, which can appeal to gamers, content creators or other technophiles who require exceptionally high bandwidth. While most households don't require multi-gig speeds for everyday internet use, consider whether the extra speed is worth it for you.
- Starting price: $150 per month
- Download/upload speeds: 8,000 Mbps (symmetrical)
- Included equipment: Wi-Fi 6E router, two mesh extenders
- Contract: None
Webpass

Google offers Webpass in Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, N.C., Chicago, Kansas City, Mo., Nashville, Tenn., San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle.
- Starting price: $70 per month or $63 per month with a yearly plan
- Download/upload speeds: 1,000 Mbps (symmetrical)

Google Fiber deals and bundles
Google has no introductory offers or first-time customer discounts — what you pay is what you pay. You won't have to sign a contract, pay data overage fees or worry about a price increase after a price-lock guarantee period. But you won't score any special discounts, either.
Google Fiber vs. other internet providers
Here’s a quick look at how Google Fiber compares with fiber ISPs with similar speeds:
- Google Fiber: 1,000–8,000 Mbps; $70–$150 per month
- AT&T Fiber: 1,000–5,000 Mbps; $80–$245 per month
- Xfinity Gigabit Pro: 1,200–6,000 Mbps; $80–$300 per month
Google Fiber coverage and availability
Google Fiber is an outstanding choice for high-speed internet — if it’s available in your area.
Google Fiber is only available to 1% of the population, significantly less than the reach of other fiber internet competitors. Its current service area includes just 48 cities in 19 states.
Furthermore, Google's fiber infrastructure is less robust than that of other fiber internet ISPs, and installing it in your home is more complicated because it requires a fiber optic line. Fiber must be buried in your yard and connected to an access point near your house, where you'll place a Google Wi-Fi router. Google provides free professional installation, but the installation process is more involved than the plug-and-play options offered by 5G providers.
