Next-gen 'Doom' video game gets release date

The next iteration of id Software's Doom franchise has a release date.
Developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, Doom is due out on May 13, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PCs.
This latest vision of the game has a storyline that recalls the original 1993 PC classic: you play the part of a space marine charged with ridding a Mars research facility infested with hellish demons.
The game is centered around "badass demons, big effing guns and moving really really fast, said the game's executive producer Marty Stratton back in June when he unveiled the game during Bethesda Softworks' showcase at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
In addition to the single-player story campaign, Doom has multiple multiplayer modes and Doom SnapMap, software that lets players create and share new maps and game missions.
Pre-orders for the game -- and a $119.99 collector's edition with 12-inch demon statue -- are now being taken on the game's official website.
