Are Facebook and Instagram down? Reports of issues drop
Facebook and Instagram seem to be recovering after going down for thousands of users Friday morning.
Just before 10 a.m. ET on Friday, June 12, more than 113,000 users reported issues with Facebook and more than 15,000 users reported issues with Facebook Messenger. Nearly 10,000 users reported disruptions with Instagram, according to Downdetector, which provides real-time outage updates.
The outage didn't appear to last long, with users reporting Facebook coming back online within about an hour.
By 1 p.m. ET, outage reports were down to fewer than 800 for Facebook and Instagram and around 200 for Facebook Messenger. A similiar tracker from NordVPN showed that the majority of Facebook issues were resolved by 11:30 a.m. ET, while Instagram took a little longer, resolving most issues by 12:30 p.m. ET.
Comments on Downdetector's outage pages showed that some users were still having issues with certain Facebook features, like posting photos or leaving comments, around 1:30 p.m. ET.
USA TODAY reached out to Meta for more information on June 12.
