SAN FRANCISCO — People will start seeing "buy" buttons when they search Google for products on their mobile devices, escalating competition with Amazon.com, according to a published report.

Google's Mountain View, Calif., campus.

The buttons, which will launch in coming weeks, will appear only next to paid search results, The Wall Street Journalreported.

When shoppers click on the buy buttons, they will be taken to a Google product page, where they can make the purchase.

Retailers will still be the ones to sell and ship the products. Google has told retailers the buy buttons will increase the chances that shoppers will make a purchase on smaller screens.

Google issued a statement: "We do not have a comment to provide at this time."
