Christmas to feature AFC divisional-round playoff rematch
- Date: May 14
- Source:Jordan Schultz
The NFL continues to load up on marquee matchups for its holiday schedule. The league is putting the highly anticipated AFC divisional playoff rematch between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos on Christmas. Last season's tilt was marred by Broncos quarterback Bo Nix suffering a fractured ankle that would rule him out for the AFC championship game.
Packers, Bears to meet on Christmas
- Date: May 14
- Source: Jordan Schultz
The NFL has made the Bears one of the fixtures of its standalone slate, giving Chicago both a Thanksgiving date as well as a Christmas one. The latter will spotlight another NFC North rivalry, with the Bears set to square off against the Packers. Last year's three meetings - including Chicago's wild-card playoff win - featured plenty of late thrills courtesy of Caleb Williams. Now, the league is betting that last season's excitement will carry over into a fresh campaign.
Bears vs. Lions to open Thanksgiving slate
- Date: May 14
The Thanksgiving tripleheader is now officially set, as the league announced that the Lions will host the reigning NFC North champions in the opening clash. Detroit's tilt will give Bears coach Ben Johnson a shot at beating his former team for the first time after Chicago went 0-2 against the Lions last year. Expect plenty of fireworks between two of the league's top-10 scoring offenses from 2025.
Chiefs vs. Bills set for Thanksgiving nightcap
- Date: May 14
- Source: Jordan Schultz
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Thanksgiving trifecta will culminate in the quarterback battle of Patrick Mahomes vs. Josh Allen. Allen dominates the regular season in matchups between these two (5-1), while Mahomes is undefeated (4-0) against his counterpart in the postseason.
Panthers to host Bears in Week 1
- Date: May 13
- Source: Jordan Schultz
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Bears and Panthers will square off in a season-opening clash for both teams. Both Carolina and Chicago boast former No. 1 overall picks starting at quarterback – the Panthers' Bryce Young from the 2023 draft and the Bears' Caleb Williams from 2024 – and won division titles in 2025. The Bears traded the No. 1 pick in 2023 to the Panthers, who took Young, and got what turned out to be the top in 2024 as part of the return − that selection spent on Williams.
Patriots will be Seahawks' opponent in 2026 NFL Kickoff game
- Date: May 13
- Source: Jordan Schultz
As reigning Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks will host the first game of the 2026 regular season. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, their visitors in that matchup will be the New England Patriots, the same team they beat in Super Bowl 60 in February.
Netflix to broadcast Packers vs. Rams on Thanksgiving Eve
- Date: May 13
The NFL has added yet another stand-alone game to Thanksgiving week. Netflix announced that the Packers and Rams would face off on Wednesday, Nov. 25 in the league's first-ever "Thanksgiving Eve" game.
The Rams will host the Packers at SoFi Stadium at 8 p.m. ET.
It isn't yet clear how the NFL will handle Green Bay and Los Angeles' respective schedules in the lead-up to that game. The league figures to either have both teams on bye in Week 11 or could have one play on "Thursday Night Football" before its Wednesday contest.
NFL reveals every international game on schedule

The NFL announced its entire lineup of international games for the 2026 season during "Good Morning Football" on May 13.
