Viktor Hovland defeats Scottie Scheffler in Travelers Championship playoff

Updated June 29, 2026, 11:21 a.m. ET

Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler returned to TPC River Highlands for a Monday morning playoff to determine a winner of the 2026 Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Playing the par-4 18th hole, Hovland rolled in an 8-footer for birdie, while Scheffler stunningly missed his shorter birdie attempt, giving Hovland his eighth career PGA Tour victory.

"You really have to trickle it down there," Hovland said, "and as soon as I hit it ... it kept trickling closer and closer and hit the right edge."

Scheffler's second-place finish is his fourth of the season.

The pair finished out Sunday’s round at 21 under par before the action was suspended due to darkness. The round was delayed earlier on Sunday because of rain.

This was the 26th playoff at the Travelers Championship, but the first since Scheffler beat Tom Kim in 2024. Scheffler, who is ranked No. 1 overall in the World, falls to 2-3 in playoff appearances. Hovland improves to 2-0.

The playoff was the PGA Tour's sixth of the season.

Here are the highlights of the Travelers Championship playoff:

First sudden-death hole

Hovland teed off first and split the fairway on the par-4 18th hole.

Scheffler followed suit. Their balls were, at most, a few yards apart.

From 156 yards, Scheffler stuck his approach to about five feet. Hovland, from 153, also knocked it on the green just outside Scheffler's ball.

Hovland coaxed his 8-footer down the slope and just in the right side of the hole for birdie. But Scheffler hit his putt on the left edge and it just slid past the hole.

Viktor Hovland is your champion.
