Winning With Awareness: How Ramez Shamieh Approaches Law and Life

Most personal injury firms are known for their cheesy commercials and having their employees work in assembly lines. These types of firms focus on casting a huge net to catch their clients, while the client pays the price. The price is a low level of service. At Shamieh Law, the focus is always on serving their clients and the community. Every decision revolves around ensuring injured victims have all the tools required to heal and be compensated for their injuries. Ramez Shamieh has built his firm and personal life on seeking ways to elevate and better serve his community. Shamieh’s life slogan, “Winning with Awareness,” has helped shape his approach to his law practice and, in turn, has brought a distinctive sense of humanity into the courtroom. Winning with Awareness means being passionate about getting the best results for clients, but doing it in a way that treats everybody with respect, honesty, and compassion. This includes employees, clients, opposing attorneys, and people in the community. Shamieh Law believes that there is a way everyone can win.
Family As Foundation
From a young age, “Winning With Awareness” was instilled in Ramez. The son of an immigrant neurologist in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Shamieh’s father impressed upon him early the importance of service to the community. Shamieh recounts his father once repeatedly trying to contact an attorney to no avail. Turning to his son, Shamieh’s father insisted, “Whatever you do, if someone calls you, pick up the phone.” That lesson became the cornerstone of his son’s future practice, where the presence of mind and service remain foundational principles.
God tested Ramez and his family the day before Thanksgiving in 2010. On that night, his brother was run over by a drunk driver who fled the scene. His legal profession became his personal mission to help his brother. From that moment, Ramez dedicated his life to helping injured victims. Over the next few years, Shamieh tried and won several cases and learned how to be a shark in the courtroom. Every client was treated as if they were his brother. This passion is what drives individuals like Ramez to achieve greatness.
Persistence and Manifestation
Shamieh’s persistence paid off. In 2016, Shamieh opened his own firm. He walked into a modest leased space and, with a quiet prayer, told himself that within five years he would expand his entire office down to the far window. Eighteen months later, that window office was his, and he realized the power of intentionality and letting go of self-limiting timelines or beliefs. “Don’t set time on it—set the intention and go after it,” Shamieh says. Soon after, Ramez decided to expand to his home state of Louisiana and Arkansas. He currently operates in four cities: Dallas, Austin, Lake Charles, and Little Rock. Additionally, Shamieh Law now offers both injury litigation and immigration services at his firm.
A Practice in Mindfulness
Unrelenting drive toward success may make for an inspirational story, but in reality, it often leads to inflection points, as it did for Shamieh. In 2018, a grueling schedule and poor habits were piling up, leading to excruciating pain in his back. The pain was so intense he contemplated having surgery. Rather than giving in to the “easy fix,” Shamieh shifted his mindset, and began taking slow steps to heal himself. One of the big lessons that Shamieh preaches is: “we have the ability to heal ourselves just as quickly as we can create our own pain and suffering.” This mindset altered both his personal life and became an informing principle for his practice.
Shamieh rebuilt his habits and, consequently, himself. Focusing on mindfulness and incorporating movement, breathwork, and better eating and sleeping habits, little by little, these steps changed his life. The firm owner took time to enjoy his passions: speaking to young adults and children about health and motivation, becoming a DJ, a breathwork instructor, and hosting wellness events across the country.
The Holistic Attorney
This holistic approach towards life has likewise changed his law practice. Shamieh keeps employee well-being at the top of his mind, encouraging open dialogue and honesty with his team. Leading with authenticity, the firm owner seeks to create a workplace driven by goals rather than anxiety, stating that “we are not a fear-driven firm. Openness creates loyalty and better decisions.”
With both his father’s and brother’s medical backgrounds influencing his practice, Shamieh treats his clients the way his family would treat their patients, with deep concern for their full health and experience. During a recent nine-day trial in a venue typically unfavorable to injured parties, Shamieh’s firm captured the client’s trust and respect, wherein she spoke about how the care and coaching, rather than the settlement, was what made all the difference to her. One of the moments she recalled was that Ramez trained her on breathing techniques before she took the witness stand to calm her nerves. She was also pleasantly surprised that during the trial, Ramez offered and paid for her to get a massage. These examples of service and care for humanity are what set Shamieh Law apart.
Looking Towards the Future
Shamieh now looks to bring this distinctive human-centered approach to other sectors of the legal field. As the soccer player-attorney-DJ awaits the upcoming World Cup, the firm owner has now started an immigration section at his firm to help teams, fans, artists, and fellow DJ’s coming to the U.S. to play or watch.
Undoubtedly, a broad spectrum of interests here, but that diversity of thought is precisely the characteristic that makes Shamieh’s approach to law so singular. Treating clients, employees, attorneys and judges holistically, addressing their many needs with an openness and vulnerability that is distinctly, well, human. For Shamieh, it’s one in the same, stating “winning with awareness is how we practice—and how we live.”
