Electric Alchemy: How Erika Guerrero and Luke Workman Power Innovation at Electric Goddess

From the moment Erika Guerrero’s parents left her at the library as soon as she could read, her unquenchable curiosity took flight, landing her in gifted programs, toward a path rooted in innovation, creativity, and strategy. On paper, she studied sociology and focused on astrophysics, yet that academic combination proved to be the foundation of her journey. While the sociologist's lens taught her to decode paradigms and human systems, astrophysics invited her to probe cosmology principles and the Universe as a whole.  

“I’m just intensely curious about things; people say I’m an engineer passing,” she reflects. That curious humility fuels her approach in every realm of her career, and it’s in that very mindset that she met Luke Workman, now her husband.  

With a battery career stretching back to 2006, Workman’s technical breadth encompasses working with data centers in global tech companies, aviation battery systems, space energy platforms, and a passion for hot rodding electric vehicles. Together, they form a yin-yang of vision and rigor, with Guerrero's technical insight into accessible intelligence and Workman bringing holistic, inventive solutions where others may only see silos. 

Partnering as a powerhouse, they launched Electric Goddess with little more than an idea and a makeshift lab in the extra bedroom of their apartment. Guerrero had just left a corporate job, uncertain of what was next. Within a few weeks, she found herself working in a dimly lit aircraft hangar on projects. Workman, Chief Scientist and co-founder of the venture, helped coin the name Electric Goddess, honoring both the feminine energy of nurturing and the technical masculine drive of making. 

Their company has grown steadily, bootstrapped yet ambitious. Today, Electric Goddess is a boutique battery systems R&D consultancy and advanced lab, featuring custom-designed test equipment, vacuum chambers, and thermal conductivity fixtures. They push designs from cells to full systems, across sectors spanning micromobility, automotive, energy storage, aircraft, and space applications.  

Guerrero, serving as Founder and CEO, leads strategy and partnerships, bringing intentional design and circularity to battery technology. She has shepherded ultra-high vacuum testing, benchmarking, and testing of battery components for satellites.  

Their lab now influences how global companies specify components and design for longevity, safety, and ROI, helping prevent thermal runaway propagation, mitigate corrosion, and elevate system ruggedness.  

Guerrero’s leadership blends sociological insight with technical empathy. She strives to translate scientific language into accessible guidance; her “scientific-to-action translation” may enable engineers and executives alike to align around shared goals.  

Looking forward, both see horizons that stretch far beyond current consultancies. Guerrero dreams of terraforming with lasers, electric zeppelins, and forging collaborations in optics, energy efficiency, and space technology. Workman contributes that unwavering scientific curiosity, the willingness to be “comfortable with being uncomfortable,” and the search for answers in the unknown. 

They are expanding into media and education, launching a podcast that explores battery safety, cell balancing, corrosion, voltage systems, and more. They’re also working in adjacent industries such as recycling, on a benchmarking project for new types of batteries, and are committed to sharing knowledge that accelerates innovation and minimizes failure across the battery industry, which translates into a better energy future for all.  

At Electric Goddess, their projects begin with an in-depth strategy session to align on goals, risks, and vision before tailoring a plan that fits. “We’re not just consultants, we’re allies,” Guerrero says. “Our job is to integrate with a team, speak to both engineers and executives, and guide them toward success without added noise.”
