Bridging the Skills Gap: NSITE Empowers People Who Are Blind and Have Low Vision Through Training and Career Growth

Unlike many organizations that offer one-size-fits-all training, it has built a diverse, stackable system of learning tracks, each tailored to different industries and career goals. The programs are fully remote and carefully constructed to accommodate the needs of learners with visual disabilities, ensuring participants can access content, interact with instructors, and complete coursework easily and confidently. 

One of NSITE’s flagship offerings, the Professional Mastery of Office Technology for Employment (ProMOTE), focuses on building advanced proficiency with essential office software using assistive technologies. It helps participants to create accessible documents, conduct efficient internet research, and master the tools needed to thrive in professional office settings.

Those interested in procurement and government contract work can benefit from NSITE’s Contract Management Support courses. The foundational training equips participants with the principles of contract administration. The more advanced “101 Cohort” builds on this knowledge with live instruction, preparing learners for specialized roles in closing out federal contracts.  

Technology-focused learners can access IT training through the NSITE Cisco Networking Academy. Participants can pursue certifications such as the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Cybersecurity, as well as delve into IT and cybersecurity through beginner and intermediate tracks. These programs incorporate career coaching, interview preparation, and workplace etiquette to help graduates become workplace ready. 

In addition, NSITE offers a 20-week sourcing certificate program. It delivers instruction in talent sourcing and includes a hands-on corporate internship, where participants work within real-world talent acquisition teams. The result is a digital credential that validates their capabilities and increases their chances to land HR and recruiting roles. 

For those with a drive to lead, NSITE’s Business Leaders Program offers pathways to develop professional and managerial skills. With tracks ranging from Business Basics to Executive Leadership, this program helps participants gain the strategic mindset and organizational understanding needed for supervisory and executive roles.

This is how we ensure every tool and piece of content is user-friendly for learners who are blind,” states Dr. Jonathan Lucus, Executive Director of NSITE. “We work side-by-side with the provider to make necessary adjustments. We also train facilitators to teach effectively in a virtual environment where screen sharing, and visual aids must be adapted or replaced.” Essentially, NSITE’s end-to-end approach creates an environment where no one is left behind.
