Thakre’s journey into operations began with a foundation in electrical engineering, but from the outset, his ambition was clear: create scalable, sustainable impact. Early in his career, he played a pivotal role in delivering India’s largest solar power facility — a 100 MW project that offset over 150,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually. 

“That project changed how I thought about infrastructure,” he recalls. “It taught me that engineering is about more than efficiency; it’s about sustainability and legacy.” 

That ethos carried into his tenure at General Electric, where he led initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region that slashed operational costs by $30 million. Most notably, he was instrumental in India’s largest grid stabilization project, improving power reliability for millions of citizens. 

“At GE, Stabilizing the grid wasn’t just a technical challenge — it was a national priority. We engineered solutions that delivered reliability, resilience, and economic growth all at once.” 

Thakre later earned his MBA from Georgia Tech, where he deepened his expertise in strategy and leadership. As President of the Operations Club, he forged partnerships between academia and industry, mentored emerging leaders, and championed innovation-driven business models. 

 Transforming Global Supply Chains at Amazon 

Thakre’s move to Amazon marked a pivotal new chapter — one where speed and scale converged at unprecedented levels. Joining just around the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he quickly became a key architect in fortifying Amazon’s global supply chain network. 

“The pandemic stress-tested supply chains like never before,” he says. “Our mission was clear: ensure customers got essential goods, while prioritizing safety.” 

His leadership, powered by AI and advanced analytics, delivered measurable results. Under his guidance, the site boosted throughput by 25%, cut operational costs, and accelerated delivery speeds — all while embedding sustainability at the core of its logistics model. 

“AI isn’t just a buzzword,” Thakre emphasizes. “It’s how we predict demand, optimize networks, and delight customers — while reducing waste and emissions.” 

 Shaping the Future of Amazon’s $400 Billion Regionalization Initiative 

In 2024, Thakre played a key role in Amazon’s ambitious $400 billion Inbound Regionalization initiative. This strategy reimagined how products are stored and moved across Amazon’s fulfillment network, aligning inventory with regional demand to reduce transportation costs and emissions. 

“Regionalization was a game changer,” he reflects. “We brought products closer to customers, improved availability, and dramatically cut carbon emissions — all while making delivery speeds faster than ever.” 

By optimizing inventory placement and redefining fulfillment strategies, Thakre’s team strengthened Amazon’s sustainability credentials and improved operational agility. 

“It’s about precision and flexibility,” he explains. “We designed a network where efficiency, customer experience, and environmental impact work in harmony.”

As a Six Sigma certified professional and Senior Member of IEEE, Thakre has long championed the integration of AI, machine learning, and predictive analytics in operations. Thakre’s commitment to technology is grounded in the belief that innovation should always serve a broader societal goal. His research, published in the International Journal of Supply Chain Management, focuses on how AI-powered solutions can create supply chains that are not only fast and efficient but also sustainable. He remains a passionate advocate for eco-conscious logistics, ensuring that Amazon’s strategies align with global sustainability standards. 

“Technology is the great enabler,” he says. “Every algorithm we fine-tune and every predictive model we deploy translates to fewer trucks on the road, lower emissions, and faster deliveries.” 

His AI-driven strategies have kept Amazon ahead in an intensely competitive landscape — while aligning with global sustainability standards. 

“Our work shows that business efficiency and social responsibility aren’t mutually exclusive,” Thakre affirms. “They’re symbiotic.”
