Video: Preview Syfy's Jim Henson-inspired series

I'm not much of a reality-TV viewer, but sometimes a show comes along that's smarter than the genre's typical fare. This month Syfy launches Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge, which already has reeled me in with its title.

The show is tailor-made for fans of the Muppets, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal and other glorious Henson creations. Henson Company chairman Brian Henson serves as head judge, and it's hosted by Farscape alum Gigi Edgley.

This week Syfy released several teasers, including brief looks at contestants' creatures. I like how the Challenge appears to be a fantasy-infused version of Project Runway, with a friendlier and more relatable cast.

"By the time you're done (with a challenge), your eyes are bouncing on springs, you're twitchy and, you know … that's the fun part of it," one contestant says.
