What will happen in the new year? Share your 2026 predictions. | Opinion

What was the best and worst thing that happened in 2025? What are you looking forward to – or dreading – in the new year? Tell us below.

Maybe it's just me, but 2025 felt like a never-ending onslaught of news – and at times, it was hard to catch my breath. From all things Trump administration to pop culture moments (remember when everyone discovered "Love Island"? Or when Taylor Swift got engaged?) to the destruction of the Los Angeles wildfires, the deadly flooding in Texas Hill Country and everything in between.

As I recover from the year that was, I'm looking ahead to 2026 and all that comes with it: Midterm elections and more seemingly endless news cycles, sure, but also the Winter Olympics, a World Cup played out across the Americas and the 250th anniversary of the United States. The only thing I know for certain is that nothing is certain. Will Russia’s war with Ukraine finally end? Will inflation ratchet upward? Are we heading toward a recession? Is ChatGPT going to be my boss? Will everything be a Netflix production now?

What do you think will happen in 2026? Tell us below.

The giant "2026" numerals bringing in the new year arrived in Times Square as NYC gears up for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The churn, churn, churn of this year has reminded me to log off in the next. "Touch grass," as the kids say. Call it a resolution, an intention, a goal. Whatever the name, many of us have one (or perhaps many). So we want to know: Do you make resolutions for the new year? If so, what are they? What do you think will happen in 2026? What do you want to happen – and what do you hope won't, but fear will?

Tell us using the form below, or send us an email to [email protected] with the subject line “Forum New Year.” We’ll publish a collection of the best ones in an upcoming piece. And may you have a healthy and safe 2026.
