Political correctness will get us killed: Your Say
The enemies are radical Muslims, not guns.
Letter to the editor:
USA TODAY’s editorial “Ban assault weapons now” was far off base. Like so many, it tries to focus on gun control instead of Islamic extremism. This killer was cleared as a federal security contractor. Every gun-control law that has ever been proposed would not have stopped him. One co-worker of Omar Mateen, the killer, stated that Mateen made dangerous and violent statements, but no one intervened. This is political correctness run amok! President Obama and Hillary Clinton refused to use the term “Islamic extremism” or “Islamic jihadist.” Donald Trump was not so politically correct. If you cannot identify your enemy, you have no hope of defeating him. We have had so many attacks: 9/11, Fort Hood, San Bernardino and now Orlando. We need a president and Congress willing to declare war on Islamic terrorists, wherever they are in the world, and bring the full force of American military power — not just occasional drone strikes —to eliminate this cancer on humanity.

The focus of stricter laws shouldn't be on those granted to us by the Constitution of the U.S., but on the laws allowing Muslim extremists into our country.
Omar Mateen was an American citizen, yes, but born to Afghan natives. Go ahead and fight for more gun control. When this country is under attack over and over again, I'll know I can protect my family because of my constitutional rights.
