NYC heat wave will feel like 110 degrees ahead of July 4 holiday
A prolonged heat wave is expected to intensify across most of the eastern United States this week, according to the National Weather Service.
The agency said on the morning of June 29 around 90 million Americans live where an extreme heat watch or extreme heat warning is in effect. In addition, tens of millions more are under heat advisory alerts.
"A heat dome will develop, strengthen and grow in size over much of the central United States for an extended period through the Independence Day weekend," said AccuWeather meteorologist Alex Sosnowski in an online forecast. "It will even expand into parts of the East for several days. At its full extent, dangerous conditions will affect more than two dozen states."
East coast cities like New York City, Washington DC and Philadelphia could see highs around 100 degrees for several days, combining with humidity and cloud cover to put heat indices near 110 degrees.

Heat wave comes as NYC prepared to host litany of events
The New York City metro area is scheduled to host multiple major events in the coming days, such as Fourth of July celebrations and the World Cup matchup between France and Sweden at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Tuesday, June 30.
The venue is scheduled to host another World Cup game on July 5, with the two teams featured in the game set to be determined this week.
Another rumored upcoming event in the city is the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Multiple reports say the wedding is scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden his week, with festivities expected to begin on July 2.
