DETROIT – This wasn’t supposed to happen, Hannah thought, not to people like her.

She grew up in an affluent Detroit suburb. She was a competitive dancer and gymnast, had loving parents, graduated a semester early from high school with a 4.0 and went on to study pre-med at Oakland University.
