Missing pilot's bag found at Cleveland club

Police in Cleveland were examining a bag found Sunday that may be linked to the crash last week of a private plane over Lake Erie.

Searchers on Sunday were still trying to recover the plane, which disappeared late Thursday with six people on board.

The bag belonged to the missing pilot, John T. Fleming, and apparently contained his identification card and other items, WKYC-TV reported Sunday. It was found at Shoreby Club Newport Harbor in Bratenahl, Ohio, near Cleveland.

Fleming and five others were heading home to Columbus, Ohio, late Thursday after attending a Cleveland Cavaliers game when their Cessna Citation 525 disappeared from radar over Lake Erie. The plane had just taken off from Burke Lakefront Airport, police said.

Also on board, in addition to the 46-year-old pilot, were Fleming’s wife, Suzanne, 46, their two sons, 15-year-old John "Jack" Fleming and 14-year-old Andrew Fleming, a neighbor and the neighbor’s daughter, The Columbus Dispatch reported.

The neighbors’ names were not immediately released.

Fleming is the president of the Columbus-based Superior Beverage Group, a wholesale distributor for Great Lakes Brewery. Fleming's father told The Dispatch that his son is "an experienced pilot," but didn't say how long he had been flying.

The family live just north of Dublin, Ohio.
