Expect big celebrations in New York City for Pride Weekend

Celebrations, organized and not, have been taking place across the country Friday following the Supreme Court's landmark ruling that said same-sex marriage is a legal right. Look for a big party in the Big Apple, which has been celebrating Pride Week. Marchers are scheduled to trek down Fifth Avenue on Sunday, led by gay British actors Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi. (They will be joined as grand marshals by Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera, a Ugandan activist, and artist J. Christopher Neal.) "This weekend's events will be even more memorable as we take to the streets of Manhattan and Pier 26 for NYC LGBT Pride," organizers said in a statement. "We look forward to welcoming New Yorkers and visitors from across the globe for a Pride that will go down in the history books." For those who want to celebrate and can't make it to New York, here's a round up of Pride celebrations around the country.

1 N.Y. fugitive still on the run after officer kills accomplice

Authorities are hunting for escaped killer David Sweat after a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent shot and killed his accomplice, Richard Matt, Friday. Sweat has not been sighted since his escape, police say, but evidence found a week ago indicated he was with Matt in a cabin that had been burglarized. Matt was shot in a wooded area about 30 miles west of the Clinton Correctional Facility from which the two men escaped. A 20-gauge shotgun was found on him, though he did not fire it at officers, officials said. Matt was serving a 25-years-to-life sentence for the 1997 kidnapping, torture and hacksaw dismemberment of his boss.

Record-breaking heat to scorch Northwest

The first heat wave of the year is forecast for much of the northwestern U.S. this weekend, as many cities across the region will see 100-degree temperatures, AccuWeather predicts. Record-high temperatures will be challenged or broken this weekend in cities such as Portland, Ore., Seattle, Boise, Reno and Salt Lake City. This heat wave may not only top daily record highs, but may also threaten record highs for the entire month of June or, in a few locations, all-time record highs, the Weather Channel predicted.

Campaigns with a cause score big at Cannes ad festival

It's been a big year for cause-related campaigns at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the Oscars of the advertising and marketing world. Among the cause-related winners of the prestigious Grand Prix awards are promotions that celebrate the strength of women, teach Cambodians healthier ways to cook and highlight a reflective spray that keeps bicyclists safe. This year's final awards will be given out Saturday night. Here's a look at some of the campaigns that have taken top honors so far.

SpaceX capsule to deliver new parking spot for space station

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket will take aim toward the International Space Station this weekend to deliver some much-needed supplies. Liftoff is scheduled for 10:21 a.m. ET Sunday, weather permitting. Minutes after liftoff, SpaceX will make another attempt to land a discarded first-stage booster from the Falcon 9 on a barge in the Atlantic. NASA said the Dragon spacecraft will carry more than 4,000 lbs. of supplies destined for the ISS. Besides food and experiments, the Dragon ordered up by NASA holds a new docking port, or parking place, for future commercial crew capsules. Speaking of the ISS, American Scott Kelly is aboard and has been tweeting some awe-inspiring images.

Bonus: Skywatchers will get eight days of a special treat beginning Saturday when the two brightest planets — Jupiter and Venus — will be very close to each other in the evening sky.
