New LEGO 'X-Files' set includes Mulder, Scully and Flukeman

The truth is out there, and soon it'll be on toy shelves. LEGO is bringing "The X-Files" back into the spotlight with a new 1,478-piece set that lets fans build Fox Mulder's office, investigate a UFO sighting and revisit one of television's most iconic sci-fi dramas.

Part of LEGO's fan-powered Ideas line, the collectible set recreates memorable scenes from the hit '90s series and includes eight minifigures, among them Mulder, Dana Scully and a gray alien. Unveiled with help from "X-Files'" star Gillian Anderson, the set arrives in August and is sure to spark nostalgia among longtime believers.

Brisbane-based 3D artist Brent Waller submitted the original concept through LEGO Ideas, which allows fan creations to become official sets if they receive enough community support.

"I wanted to combine nostalgia, detail and storytelling to capture the atmosphere of the show, from Mulder's office to the forest and UFO encounter," Waller said in an interview published by LEGO.

What's included in the LEGO X-Files set?

According to LEGO, the set recreates several iconic moments from the long-running sci-fi series, centered around a detailed version of Mulder's office, a forest clearing and a hovering UFO.

The set includes eight minifigures:

• Fox Mulder
• Dana Scully
• Walter Skinner
• Mr. X
• Alex Krycek
• Carl Busch
• The Flukeman
• A gray alien

"The LEGO Ideas 'The X-Files' set recreates iconic moments from the series, centred on a detailed build of Fox Mulder's office, paired with a forest clearing scene and a hovering UFO," LEGO said in a news release.

Gillian Anderson helps unveil the set

Anderson, who played FBI agent Dana Scully throughout the series, called the build a celebration of the show and its enduring fan base.

"I didn't expect to be stepping back into Scully's heels to investigate a LEGO set ... it has been so much fun revisiting that world all these years later," Anderson said in a statement.

When does the LEGO X-Files set go on sale?

The LEGO Ideas "The X-Files" set will be available:

• Aug. 1 for LEGO Insiders members
• Aug. 4 for the general public

The set will retail for $199.99.

Fans who purchase the set between Aug. 1 and Aug. 10 will also receive a bonus gift-with-purchase set called "The X-Files: Scully's Lab."
