Was the 'Tonight Show' viral video fake?

Over the weekend, The Tonight Show's clip of a musical couple went viral, and with good reason: It features a likable couple doing something unexpectedly awesome.

Here's what happens in the video: Pumpcast News anchor Jack Rafferty surprises Will Sims and his wife Monifa from a TV monitor at a gas station. He offers to pay for the couple's gas if Will, then Monifa, sings. They oblige, and they're actually good singers!

The video has garnered 7.7 million views and counting, making it easily the most popular video to come out of The Tonight Show.

But is the segment real? The Smoking Gun reports that Will and Monifa are trained actors, and the fact that that information was never brought up on The Tonight Show is a bit sketchy. Also, Monifa has been on a Pumpcast Newssegment before.

Still, the couple defends the legitimacy of the video. Will told the Chicago Sun-Times that the show didn't mention their thespian history, because viewers would think he was a "plant." Smoking Gun reports that Monifa says it was just a fluke that she appeared on the show twice.

Regardless of how legit that video is, it's still fantastic, don't you think?
