This 'Pitch Perfect' star is an aca-expert, but doesn't sing in the movie
A capella sequel Pitch Perfect 2 has plenty of singing, duh. But one character who doesn't get to show off his pipes is John Michael Higgins' John.
You probably remember him as Gail's (Elizabeth Banks) a capella co-host who pokes fun of singers and makes outrageously sexist jokes. In Pitch Perfect 2, the character also records a "Talkapella" podcast with Gail. The thing is, the real Higgins truly could speak knowledgeably on an a capella podcast, because the actor has some serious aca-expertise. Here's what Higgins said at the Pitch 2 premiere:
"I've been an a capella person for 30, 4o years. I was a leader of my a capella group in college. I write arrangements for a capella groups now ... (The filmmakers) didn't even know or care, because I don't sing in the movie."
However, Higgins did get to show his aca-awesome-ness in A Mighty Wind and
"I've done a capella stuff in other movies," says Higgins. "I wrote those arrangements, but never for this. It could be because I'm male."
