Ben Affleck on boys vs. girls: We're just not as smart

Much has been made about Gone Girl, and whether it's misogynistic in its depiction of women. Amazing Amy (Rosamund Pike) in particular.
You can judge for yourselves, but when we spoke to star Ben Affleck, we talked about fatherhood. He's the dad of two girls, and son Samuel, 2. And suffice to say, having a boy is very different from raising daughters.
"Boys, as we now know, are much slower than girls. Boys just take a while. We’re not as smart as women for many, many years. I don’t know if we ever catch up. We catch up in some ways but probably not in all of them," said Affleck.
He's equally forthright about parenthood in general. And he refuses to coddle his kids or pretend that the whole world is a shiny, happy place where everyone is nice.
"You just try to instill confidence in your children and make them feel good about themselves because they’re going to encounter as we all do negativity and negative feedback. Instead of making it where you go, 'Everyone wants to be your friends,' you have to go, 'How do you deal with this situation?' There’s a lot to be said for letting them make these discoveries on their own even though it can be painful.”
