Saleen MartinAs the second quarter of the new year approaches for many companies, Walmart continues to expand its footprint, including a single opening in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex this month.
The opening in northern Texas will come at the end of April, the company confirmed to USA TODAY on March 31. The store will join the company’s fleet of more than 10,900 stores.
Walmart spent 2025 opening 12 new stores and remodeling 674 stores, President and CEO David Guggina said during the company’s Feb. 19 earnings call.
The company also announced a 4.6% increase in comparable store sales for its fourth quarter of 2025. Company executives also announced in February 2026 that Walmart International saw a 7.5% increase in net sales growth during the final quarter of 2025.
Here’s what’s to come at Walmart over the next month.
Walmart coming to Celina, Texas, on April 29
Walmart’s latest addition in Texas will open on April 29 in Celina, about 45 miles north of Dallas. The store will be located at 400 Icy Trail, Walmart confirmed to USA TODAY. The company has held at least one hiring event in the city, including one in early March.
Walmart said in a recent news release that for the fiscal year ending in January 2026, the business saw revenue of $713 billion. The company also employs 2.1 million associates worldwide. Celina, where the newest location will be in April, has a population of about 68,583, per the World Population Review.
During the February earnings call, Guggina said the retail giant has focused on how customers want to shop, where and when they spend their money and pick-up and delivery. The company is also investing in its physical footprint, he added.

Guggina also said on Feb. 19 that the company’s investments have been working well for the business, including its omnichannel model, a strategy popular among businesses. According to technology company Oracle, omnichannel capabilities help retailers make shopping easy for customers regardless of what methods they use to shop, including in-store, on their phones or on computers.
“You might … want customers to be able to switch between channels without encountering any roadblocks,” according to Oracle. “A consumer can start browsing online and choose to pick up the item in store. Once in store, the associate could suggest additional items to complement the online purchase to increase the average order value.”
AI 'strengthening our operations,' Guggina says
Guggina said in February that artificial intelligence has also been incorporated into customer shopping experiences, most notably with the company’s AI shopping assistant, Sparky, which was launched in June 2025. Since then, the AI shopping assistant has helped customers who use the Walmart app to click an “Ask Sparky” button and find items, sift through reviews and even look up sporting events
“All within the Sparky platform, a customer can ask what sports teams are playing that night or check the weather at the beach they’re heading to — and get the perfect outfit recommended,” Walmart said when launching the AI shopping assistant on June 6.
Guggina said in February that AI is “strengthening our operations, it's improving associate productivity, and it's enhancing the customer experience.” Walmart customers are leaning into the tool, he added.
“We are seeing strong engagement,” Guggina said during the February earnings call. “Roughly half of our app users have used Sparky, and when they use Sparky, it drives them to build bigger baskets.”
Walmart has created a social media page for its upcoming location in Celina, counting down to the opening date on April 29 at www.facebook.com/walmart1250.
