Throw on something pink because Elle Woods and Bruiser Woods are back.

Amazon's Prime Video released a teaser trailer for its "Legally Blonde" prequel series, "Elle," on Wednesday, May 6, set to the song "Perfect Day" from the 2001 feature starring Reese Witherspoon. It turns out, prior to assimilating to Harvard Law School in the original flick, everyone’s favorite fashionista was forced to swap beautiful Bel-Air for Seattle, which (spoiler alert!) seems very hard.

The series, premiering on Amazon's Prime Video on July 1, is set in 1995. High schooler Elle (Lexi Minetree) is soaking up the sun poolside at her family's mansion when her parents (June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott) drop some heavy news. Her dad has gotten a job in Seattle, and they'll have to move to the rainy city for "a couple years."

"That's my whole life," Elle says before crying.

"It's a new city, with a fresh start," her mom promises. But if anyone ever said grey was the new pink, they were seriously disturbed.

"I'm feeling very blonde," Elle says struggling.

"Hey, you got this," her mom encourages, and Elle struts to class holding a pink umbrella, a stark contrast to the muted Earth tones and plaid.

According to the release, Elle "encounters tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and questionable fashion choices. Through it all, Elle uses her family as a touchstone, and forms an even tighter bond to her mother, proving that they can get through anything life throws their way as long as they have each other. With each challenge she faces, Elle grows closer to the Elle Woods we know and love today." Prime Video has already greenlit a second season.

"Elle" is one of the last credits for the late actor James Van Der Beek, who died in February following a diagnosis with colorectal cancer. He was 48 years old.

Van Der Beek, who plays Dean Wilson, a school district superintendent and mayoral candidate, previously shared with USA TODAY that his diagnosis reinvigorated his love for his chosen profession.

"For a minute, I thought, 'You know what? I don't need acting. I don't need it in the way that I did before,'" he said, during an interview in the summer of 2025. "I'm very, very happy just doing this here with my family. And then, when I got cancer, I realized I love to tell stories. Acting is actually a real passion. Writing is a real passion, and I need to feed that. So, I joke that I'm the only guy I know who got cancer and realized I need to work more."

Witherspoon, who reprised her role for 2003's "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde," is an executive producer of "Elle."
