Smashing Pumpkins, Chris Stapleton to perform at America250 concert
The Smashing Pumpkins and Chris Stapleton are taking the stage to celebrate America250 in Los Angeles.
The musical acts will perform at an America250 concert at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, July 4. The show is a part of America's Block Party, a nationwide, multi-city celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary.
As part of the celebration, 5,000 free tickets will be donated to veterans, active-duty service members and first responders. Free tickets are available to those who are eligible on the Veteran Tickets Foundation Vet Tix website.
America’s Block Party is separate from the Great American State Fair planned by another group, Freedom 250, in Washington, DC. That event made headlines in May when performers began dropping out of hours after the performance was announced.
Prior to their dropping out, Freedom 250’s lineup of mostly '90s era performers, including Brett Michaels, Morris Day and Milli Vanilli, received bipartisan criticism. President Donald Trump has since announced a new lineup of performers for the event, including himself and country singer Lee Greenwood.
A spokesperson for America250 said planning for the Los Angeles concert has been in the works for months. The group worked to find "a range of well-known, nationally appealing artists," the spokesperson said in an email.
