'The Devil Wears Prada 2' reveals streaming, digital release dates

Gird your loins! "The Devil Wears Prada 2" is coming to streaming and digital, bringing "the runway to your living room."

The sequel to 2006's blockbuster "The Devil Wears Prada" picks up with Andy (Anne Hathaway) as an award-winning reporter who lands back at Runway after she and many others are suddenly laid off from a New York newspaper.

Now the magazine's features editor, Andy struggles to create "worthwhile" journalism as a revolving door of media executives demand more page views, more exclusives, more ad dollars and more social content, all while still trying to win the approval of her boss, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), who is still imperious and deliciously savage. 

She also reunites with former colleagues Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), who has left Runway to oversee luxury retail and Nigel (Stanley Tucci), who is as feisty as ever.

Ahead of the film's release, Hathaway told USA TODAY the sequel is "a love letter to journalists."

"There are so many aspects of our society that are under siege right now, and one of the ones that frightens us the most is the way journalism is under siege and what's happening to truth," Hathaway said. "So it's very important to be on the right side of history when it comes to this particular issue."

USA TODAY's movie critic Brian Truitt gave the film ★★★ out of four, writing the "breezy follow-up mostly sticks to the formula that worked in 2006’s first 'Devil' and tosses in plenty of Easter eggs for movie fans and fashionistas alike."

"However, director David Frankel’s comedy is honest and clear-eyed as it digs into a media world where story clicks increasingly matter more than quality," the review added.

When is 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' out on digital?

"The Devil Wears Prada 2" will be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, on Tuesday, June 30.

The home release of "The Devil Wears Prada 2" also includes a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the movie, including the shoot in Italy, a peek inside the fashion closet and evolution of the characters' costumes and a music video for Lady Gaga and Doechii's “Runway."
