Here comes the sun! Princess Kate dons bright yellow for Royal Ascot

June 17, 2026, 12:30 p.m. ET

Princess Kate is back at Royal Ascot and looking radiant in a canary-yellow look.

The princess, 44, teamed the short-sleeved dress with an oversized yellow hat for the annual five-day horseracing event, which she has not attended since 2023 after being diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer in early 2024. In January 2025, the mother of three shared that her cancer was officially in remission.

On Wednesday, Kate rode in a carriage alongside husband Prince William as part of the royal procession. The future king wore a dark suit and top hat complete with a yellow flower on his lapel, echoing wife Kate's summer look.

The princess once again honored her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, wearing her three-strand pearl bracelet for the event.

Catherine, Princess of Wales arrives on the second day of the Royal Ascot in Ascot, west of London, June 17, 2026.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla were also in attendance, along with Kate's mother, Carole Middleton, 71.

Kate's dress, with a bow detail on the shoulder, was created by Roksanda, a London-based fashion brand owned by Serbian-born designer Roksanda Ilinčić. She has worn the dress for other occasions over the years, including a trip to Jamaica in March 2022 and to Wimbledon in July that same year.

The yellow ensemble was in stark contrast to the pale blue outfit she wore for Trooping the Colour on Saturday, an annual celebration that marks the monarch's official birthday.

The royals, along with thousands of spectators, gathered in London to celebrate King Charles, with Kate's youngest child, Prince Louis, stealing the show on the Buckingham Palace balcony. Kate's blue choice was a sweet nod to Diana who had worn a near identical coatdress in 1987.

In a recent radio interview with Heart Breakfast, William hailed his wife's resilience and admitted the last few years had been tough.

"She's an amazing mom, an amazing wife and, literally, our family couldn't cope without her," he said. "She's been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly."

William and Kate's appearance, on day two of Ascot, came amid swirling reports that estranged Prince Harry will return to the United Kingdom next month with his wife, Meghan and their two children. The last time all four Sussexes were in the United Kingdom was in 2024.

It is not known if brothers Prince William and Prince Harry will reunite during the trip, which comes amid a long-standing royal rift.
