Christy Carlson Romano cries after sharing positive cancer screening

Christy Carlson Romano is opening up about her health journey.

In an emotional Instagram video posted Tuesday, Feb. 17, the actress and former child star revealed that a recent cancer screening came back positive.

Romano, whose family has a history of cancer diagnoses, said she got tested for the disease along with her husband as a precaution.

"My husband's [results] came back completely negative," Romano, 41, said. "Mine did not come back negative."

The news comes a year after Romano was severely injured in a shooting incident, which resulted in the actress getting shot in the face.

Following the screening, Romano said she is looking into getting a PET scan − an imaging test that detects diseased cells using an injectable radioactive drug − for further evaluation, adding that she's "fighting" with insurance companies to get the procedure covered.

The "Even Stevens" star grew emotional as she remembered fellow actor James Van Der Beek, who died on Feb. 11 following a battle with colorectal cancer.

"I live in Austin, and I was able to meet James Van Der Beek a bunch. His family's amazing. He's a pillar of our community in Texas," Romano said, later getting choked up.

"They always were raising money for the most amazing charities, and he's not with us anymore," she continued. "Cancer is everywhere, which is why I got this test."

Romano, who had been debating sharing the health revelation because "I was afraid I'd come off 'cringe,'" said she wanted to vocalize her experience to encourage others to get cancer screenings.

"I'm nervous and a bit scared (heck who wouldn't be!)," Romano wrote in the post's caption. "I'm going in for a PET scan later this week and hopefully it's something easy to treat🤞... Let's keep the good vibes going and I will keep you all posted as I get more information 💪"
