Shopping for a used EV? These 6 under $35K offer strong value

There's been in uptick in consideration of used electric vehicles as drivers are reeling from mounting new car and gas prices.

Used EV sales in January reached 31,503 units, which is the most recent data available, according to a report from Cox Automotive. The figure is 21.2% higher than last January and also up 20.8% from December 2025.

The finding comes as the average price for new cars reached $49,353 in February 2026, according to Cox. By comparison, the average price of a used EV in the US is around $28,000–$29,000, according to Recharged.com, while the average used gas car price was over $29,099, according to Cars.com.

With that in mind, the USA TODAY Cars team took a look at average used car prices that were reported by CarGurus.com and compiled a list of the six used EVs that are usually priced under $35,000.

1. Volkswagen ID.4

Volkswagen sold 72,834 EVs in the U.S. in 2025, and the ID.4 was its top-selling electric model.

Average Used Price: $21,168

How well it holds its value: A VW ID.4 typically retains 40% its value over a five-year period.

2. Nissan Ariya
