Winter Classic jerseys

The Washington Capitals introduced their Winter Classic jerseys on Sept. 23. Their Jan. 1 opponent, the Chicago Blackhawks, will unveil theirs later. A look at the Capitals jersey and ones from their past Winter Classics.

The W logo is new to this jersey, but the teams has had stars and the word Capitals on previous jerseys. The stripes were unsed on Washington professional hockey jerseys from the 1930s.

The W logo on the pants has an image of the Washington Monument in it.

2014: The Detroit Red Wings wore home red and the Toronto Maple Leafs wore blue during the 2014 game at Michigan Stadium.

Detroit's winged wheel logo was a version from the late 1930s, and the striping was from the late 1920s.

The Toronto Maple Leafs' striping pattern was from the 1930s and the logo was from 1927.

2012: Philadelphia Flyers right wing Jaromir Jagr and teammates wore a traditional jersey with slightly different striping.

2011: Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and teammates wore the striping pattern of the jersey that the team wore in its first season in 1967-68. The difference: The jersey is dark, instead of light blue. The logo is from the second season.

2011: Washington Capitals goalie Semyon Varlamov and teammates wore the jersey that the team wore in its 1974-75 inaugural season.

2010: Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas and teammates wore a jersey similar to the 1958-59 version with a logo from 1948-49.

2009: The Chicago Blackhawks wore the 1935-36 version of their jersey, with a mid-1940s logo.
