Travis Etienne, Saints agree to terms in free agency: Contract details
Nick BrinkerhoffDuring football season, Travis Etienne will hope to run to the end zone. For now, he'll settle for a run to the bank.
Etienne has agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints in free agency, according to reports. He will sign a four-year deal worth $52 million.
The 27-year-old was considered the second-best running back to reach free agency in 2026, ranking behind Kenneth Walker III, according to USA TODAY Sports' Nate Davis. Breece Hall, the No. 1 running back on the board, was franchise tagged by the New York Jets.
Etienne posted 1,399 scrimmage yards and 13 touchdowns for the AFC South-winning Jacksonville Jaguars last season. Playing in Liam Coen's offense surely helped the running back on the open market and he'll look to carry that momentum to his new team.
The signing means the Saints won't be forced to address this need in the 2026 NFL Draft, with the running back class expected to be weaker than usual.
Here's what to know about Etienne's new deal and where he fits on the depth chart in New Orleans:

Saints RB depth chart
- Travis Etienne
- Alvin Kamara
- Kendre Miller
- Devin Neal
- Audric Estime
Etienne joins a crowded running back room in New Orleans, but he should have no problem topping the depth chart. Kamara figures to be the biggest competition, but there's a chance he takes a more limited role now that he's in the later stage of his career.
Saints coach Kellen Moore should have no issues deploying his various weapons in the backfield for Tyler Shough as the Saints look to turn the corner in their long rebuild.
