When will Pittsburgh's 2026-27 school year start? Mark these key dates

Pittsburgh students returned to class from spring break just this week, but families can already begin planning their next adventure.

At the end of March, Pittsburgh Public Schools' board OK'd district officers to adopt a school calendar for 2026-27. The calendar lays out when students and teachers will return to class, when breaks are scheduled throughout the year and what day the school year is set to end.

The adoption of the calendar comes a little less than three months before the 2025-26 school year comes to a close and kids head out for summer vacation.

Here are the key dates to mark in your calendar.

When is the end of the school year for Pittsburgh Public Schools?

Summer vacation kicks off for all grade levels and teachers in Pittsburgh on June 12, 2026. It will last just over 10 weeks for students, with teachers and other staff members heading back to school the week before classes resume.

When does school start again in Pittsburgh?

The first day of class for grades first through 12th is set for Aug. 24. Kindergarteners will have their first day of school on Aug. 27, 2026.

Teachers will return to work on Aug. 18, and paraprofessionals will come back to school on Aug. 21.

When is spring break 2027 for Pittsburgh Public Schools?

Spring break is scheduled to run from March 22–26, with students returning to class on March 29, 2027.

How long is winter break this year?

Winter break is set to last 11 days. It will start on Dec. 24, and students will return to the classroom on Jan. 4.

What are the other holidays on the Pittsburgh Public Schools calendar?

Over the course of the 2026-27 school year, Pittsburgh Public Schools students will have 12 days off in addition to spring and winter break. These holidays include:
