The designation is based on survey responses from employees at Great Place to Work Certified retail companies.

- 95% rated store service as excellent.
- 94% said they feel good about the ways Wegmans contributes to communities.
- 93% said they are able to take time off from work when necessary.
- 92% said management is honest and ethical in its business practices.
- Overall, 91% deemed Wegmans a great place to work.

Eligible companies must be Great Place to Work Certified and have 1,000 or more U.S. employees.
Companies pay an undisclosed fee to be certified, but “their placement on the list cannot be bought,” Fortune notes on its website. “The rankings are determined by an impartial analysis of employee feedback and cultural practices.”

Between 2016 and 2025, Wegmans ranked No. 1 on Fortune’s Best Places in Retail (Large), according to its website.
“The companies on this list know that trust is a competitive edge — one that can’t be stolen or mimicked by competitors or replaced by machines,” Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work, said in a statement. “In the face of market uncertainty, the data proves that high-trust workplaces see faster growth and higher returns.”
