Costco has issued a recall for some Traditional Madeleines because the treats contained nuts, but did not list the ingredient on the packages.

The warehouse retailer issued the recall on Tuesday, April 7, sending a notice to members who had purchased the products. The issue? Instead of Traditional Madeleines, the package contained Madeleines made with Chocolate Hazelnut filling, which could be harmful to those with nut allergies.

The notice said, "Our records indicate that you or one of your add on members may have purchased item # 2000012 Traditional Madeleines, which was inadvertently packaged with Madeleines filled with Chocolate Hazelnut. The mislabeled units contain undeclared Tree Nuts (Hazelnut/Filbert)."

What to do if you bought recalled Traditional Madeleines from Costco

The treats should not be eaten by any persons with a hazelnut or filbert allergy or severe sensitivity risk because they could have a life-threatening allergic reaction, Costco said in the notice to members who purchased them.

Hazelnuts are one of the top nut allergies reported by children and adults, according to Food Allergy Research & Education, a non-profit advocacy group. The other top five tree nut allergies are walnuts, almonds, pecans, cashews and pistachios.

Exposure to tree nuts can lead to immune reactions that can be mild or very severe, the group notes.

Shoppers can return the Traditional Madeleines to Costco for a full refund. Customers with additional questions can go to the Costco Customer Service website.

Other Costco items recalled

The recall of Traditional Madeleines is just the latest product sold at Costco to be recalled. Last week, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled more than 700,000 sauté pans sold at Costco, Walmart, and Amazon for being a burn hazard.

In March, Costco recalled a popular premade meatloaf meal kit sold in nearly 30 states because it may have been contaminated with Salmonella.
